AMTA conference addresses commercial truck and bus safety

by Truck West

CALGARY, Alta. – Safety experts, Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) officials and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement will all be on hand for the Alberta Motor Transport Association’s (AMTA) Safety Conference and Trade Show, the first of its kind to be hosted in Lloydminster, Alta.

The event, themed ‘Safety, a Mindset Not a Concept,’ is aimed at commercial truck and bus industries and will feature several keynote speakers, including Grant Aune of Advantage Fleet Services, Deborah Nilsen from WCB Alberta and Sgt. Wes Roth of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Alberta Justice and Solicitor General.

Also set to speak is Spencer Beach, a burn survivor, safety expert, internationally-acclaimed speaker and best-selling author of the book In Case of Fire.

Beach was the victim of a flash fire that left the third-generation flooring installer severely burned and scarred, sending him to hospital for 14 months and through a year of rehabilitation.

Aune is a retired 24-year veteran RCMP officer who has been declared by the Canadian courts as an expert witness and is one of the country’s leading authorities in commercial vehicle collision reconstruction.

The AMTA says that during uncertain times in Alberta, fleet safety professionals and transportation managers are under growing pressure to find efficient ways to remain up-to-date on key safety and compliance issues, and its Jan. 27 conference will provide a full day of learning and information with highly-acclaimed industry experts.

To register for the event, which costs $30 per person and runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (registration desk opening at 7:30 a.m.) at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition, contact Jane Douziech at janed1@amta.ca or 780-395-6146.
