Canadian transportation costs declined in April: CGFI

by Truck News

TORONTO, Ont. — The total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers decreased 0.6% in April, according to the latest Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) numbers.

The base rate was flat from March. Fuel surcharges, on average, accounted for 10.88% of the base rate in April compared to 10.32% in March.

“Overall, total freight costs declined marginally in April,” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. “Domestic truckload and LTL were positive, however the cross-border truckload and LTL showed a strong decrease. Year-over-year, all segments (domestic truckload and LTL and cross-border truckload and LTL) are all below last year’s costs with transborder being significantly lower.”
