COMPETITION WATCH: TransForce buying up Vitran shares

MONTREAL, Que. — TransForce has recently purchased shares of Vitran Corp., to the tune of some 1.763 million shares, representing about 10.75% of the company’s issued and outstanding common shares.

The purchases were made by TransForce subsidiary TFI Holdings between Dec. 17 and Jan. 24.

The average price was $5.18 per share, representing a total value of about $9.1 million.

TransForce said in a release it was buying the shares for “investment purposes.”
