Despite higher trailer orders for October, net numbers down from 2015

by Truck West

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Act Research says new and net trailer orders increased in October compared to the month prior, but still lag behind last October’s mark by a wide margin.

Act’s most recent State of the Industry indicates that a significant bias of fleet investment toward trailers lingered into October, with the ratio of net orders of trailers-to-tractors reaching its highest monthly level since 2010.

“Dry van net orders were over 2.5 times September’s level, providing the majority of the October growth,” said Frank Maly, director–CV transportation analysis and research at ACT. “Even with that surge, dry van net was down over 30% year-over-year. Those stats reflect the mix of short-term improvement and the dramatically lower order volumes being placed this order cycle.”
