International to make driver assistance technology standard

LISLE, Ill. – International Truck says it will soon be the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to include a collision mitigation system that comes standard on its Class 8 vehicles.

The LT Series on-highway Class 8 tractor will come with the advanced driver assistance safety system, Bendix Wingman Advanced, which includes a combination of collision mitigation and full stability technologies, which International says signifies assured driver safety, reducing collision costs and resulting in uptime efficiencies for heavy-duty fleets.

“Uptime is our commitment to build the best trucks on the road that drivers want to drive,” said Bill Kozek, president, trucks and parts, Navistar. “As part of our DriverFirst philosophy, driver safety is paramount when operating a truck and we’re proud to lead the way by integrating a standard solution on the new LT Series, which demonstrates our commitment to drivers, their safety, and their livelihood.”

Wingman Advanced offers various driver assistance safety features, including following distance, stationary object alerts, adaptive cruise control, braking and full-stability technology.

“We continue to integrate industry-leading safety technologies on our vehicles and we’re pleased to be the first OEM to make this level of driver assistance system standard on our newest on-highway tractor,” said Kozek. “The LT Series demonstrates our commitment to enhance driver satisfaction, comfort and safety.”

  • Here’s an idea. How about adding built-in “Insurance Claim Mitigation” ? Also known as cameras. It would be a snap to put wide lens cameras with long-term chips in strategic locations.
