AN UNEXPECTED DELIVERY

When Challenger Motor Freight driver Peter Holland set out on a delivery to the southern US, he couldn’t have had ‘baby’ on his manifest. But that’s exactly what he ended up delivering – on Nov. 30, at a Denny’s no less – when he came across a woman in labour in Texarkana, Arkansas. Peter, and an American driver Fredrick Robatcek, came to the woman’s aid and helped deliver the baby while on the phone with 911.

And this was not a simple birth, either. Peter noticed the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck. He, having just washed his hands, had to push the baby back inside the mother so he could create some slack in the cord and remove it from the baby’s neck. And it gets better…the baby weighed 10 lbs and 4 ounces upon its birth! This is a heckuva story. For their efforts, both drivers were named Highway Angels by the Truckload Carriers Association.
