PMTC announces scholarship for aspiring professional drivers

by Truck News

OAKVILLE, Ont. — The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) is offering to pay for the complete training of an aspiring professional driver on behalf of one of its members.

The new scholarship will cover up to $5,000 for a complete 200-hour training program, offered by KRTS Transportation Specialists in Ontario or another approved provider outside of the province.

The course, PMTC says, will provide the new driver with all the training required by the Professional Truck Driving Institute (PTDI) and the Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario (TTSAO), setting them on course to enjoy a rewarding career as a professional driver.

“This intensive and professionally run training program will provide another great value add to PMTC members, and will allow emerging drivers to successfully move into the entry level of a driving position with some of the best private fleets in the Industry,” says Mike Millian, president of the PMTC.

To qualify, the person must: be employed by a PMTC member company or be the child of a member company employee; have a conditional job offer, pending completion of the program; be nominated by his or her company; write a 650-1,000 word essay staying why they are a good candidate for the scholarship and outlying their personal goals within the industry; and the employer must submit a letter stating why they think their nominee is a good candidate.

To nominate someone for the scholarship, visit www.pmtc.ca. Applications will open in February.
