MARKHAM, Ont. — So, you’ve heard all about the Best Fleets to Drive For competition, maybe even seen the logo on trailers and recruiting ads, and you’re wondering what it takes to earn such a prestigious distinction?

Mark Murrell, president of CarriersEdge and co-founder of the award program, will be holding a Canada-wide speaking tour this Spring to share the best practices of the winning fleets. And the best news is: it’s free!

The seminar series, sponsored by Marsh Canada and Transportation Media (publisher of Truck News, Truck West, Motortruck Fleet Executive and Trucknews.com) features half-day sessions in which Murrell shares all the secrets of winning fleets.

The tour will visit 13 cities across Canada, beginning May 7 in Winnipeg and concluding June 13 in Regina.

Specific topics that will be discussed include: Bonus and incentive programs that improve all areas of the business; Post-orientation ramp-up programs that dramatically improve success rates for new hires; Owner/op programs that redefine what it means to be an independent contractor; and why driver turnover isn’t what people think it is.

And, because it’s the fifth year of the program, the tour will also examine the areas in which the greatest  improvement has been shown over the past five years as well as areas that are shaping up to to be “equally transformative” over the next five years.

“The 2013 edition of Best Fleets to Drive For saw a huge increase in the number of nominated fleets,” said Murrell, president of CarriersEdge. “With that level of participation, it’s no wonder we found so many great programs. Having done this tour for four years now, I’m really looking forward to sharing what we found again this year.”

Marsh is sponsoring the tour for the fourth year, and hosting most of the events at its facilities.

“The Best Fleets to Drive For seminar series gives fleet operators a chance to learn how winning fleets operate safely and efficiently,” said Scott Cober, national transportation practice leader for Marsh Canada. “This program has consistently afforded participants with valuable learning opportunities, and we’re proud to be a sponsor for the third year.”
