CBSA postpones implementation of ACI

OTTAWA, Ont. -- The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has postponed implementation of its Advanced Commercial Information (ACI) Highway eManifest program, the Canadian Trucking Alliance announced.

The program was slated to begin in June, however the CBSA reported a delay was necessary to ensure systems are adequately tested and prepared. The CTA had lobbied for a delay rather than rolling out a system that wasn't ready.

"CTA supports getting it right the first time with realistic deadlines," says CTA CEO David Bradley.  "Implementing a process without the systems, staff and infrastructure to support the program helps no one. By delaying the project, CBSA is doing the right thing."

There's no word yet on when the program will be implemented.
