EDMONTON, Alta. -- Alberta fleets will be permitted to run long combination vehicles (LCVs) along Hwy. 43 after freeze-up this year, the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) has announced.
“AMTA was advised that carriers will be allowed to operate on Hwy. 43 until spring, at which time road construction will resume,” the association announced. “Carriers will be notified by Carrier Services as soon as the permit has been revised.”
Hwy. 43 traverses portions of northern and central Alberta, connecting the Peace Country to the Edmonton Capital Region.
The AMTA has been seeking permission to run LCVs during freeze-up, so carriers could avoid splitting up trailers and moving them separately through the construction zone.
