Allison Transmission introduces enhanced electronic controls

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Allison Transmission has come out with its fifth generation electronic controls, which the company says have been designed to improve performance.

The new electronics will match the new generation of global vehicle electrical-electronic architectures for easier integration during the vehicle assembly process, and will also result in better on-road performance, Allison announced. The controls offer optimal shift strategies for maximum productivity and efficiency.

The TCM hardware has been upgraded as well as software, to provide faster, more precise processing capabilities. Also new is an embedded inclinometer, which improves vehicle productivity in stop-start operations, the company claims. The inclinometer is designed to improve Load Based Shift Scheduling performance, as the automatic selection between economy and performance shift schedules is faster and more accurate, resulting in better fuel efficiency, Allison announced.

“The combination of Allison Transmission’s continuous power technology and the latest fifth generation electronic controls is the best way to provide our customers with enhanced fuel economy as well as improved vehicle performance, fleet productivity and efficiency,” said Steve Spurlin, executive director of application engineering and vehicle integration for Allison.

The new electronic controls will be rolled out throughout 2013. Customers are encouraged to discuss availability with their OEMs.
