ATHENS, Ga. — Carrier Transicold has introduced the Vector 8600MT hybrid trailer refrigeration unit for multi-temp trailers.

The company says its new model is the first commercially available multi-temperature trailer refrigeration unit that meets the EPA Tier 4 emissions standard.

“The innovative engineering that went into the Vector 8600MT unit and its new smart remote evaporators provides our food distribution and supermarket customers with significant benefits,” said David Appel, president, Carrier Transicold and Refrigeration Systems. “These improvements will help customers in the key areas of reducing fuel consumption and maintenance costs, environmental compliance, quiet operation, lower total cost of ownership, and trailer configuration flexibility.”

The reefer shares key attributes with the recently introduced single-temp Vector 8500 unit. Both significantly reduce weight, while offering improved fuel economy and greater refrigeration capacity, the company says.

Both units also use a fully hermetic electric scroll compressor, which has 70% fewer moving parts and weighs 200 lbs less than traditional reciprocating compressors. This results in a 10% weight reduction compared to the unit’s predecessor.
