ATHENS, Ga. -- Carrier Transicold has named its new platform of “ultra-efficient” trailer refrigeration units.

The new line, which is compliant with Tier 4 EPA emissions rules slated to take effect in January 2013, has been dubbed ecoForward, Carrier announced.

The new line of trailer refrigeration units will consume considerably less fuel than today’s designs, operate quieter and deliver improved performance, the company claims. The company has redesigned its reefer line to operate more efficiently, and require less horsepower than today’s products.

“EcoForward technologies are an important milestone in Carrier Transicold’s continuous product development for transport refrigeration customers,” said David Appel, president of Carrier Transicold. “These innovative technologies include a range of forward-thinking enhancements that will boost performance and efficiency and intelligently coordinate refrigeration with a smarter engine. The efficiency gains allow us to significantly reduce engine power, enabling better fuel economy to help our North American refrigerated transport customers move their own business forward in more sustainable ways.”

The company says its new line of TRUs require 18-20% les horsepower from the engine, putting them within the scope of EPA’s Tier 4 standard for 11-25 hp engines. Meanwhile, fuel consumption has been reduced by 5-20%, the company says.

The new ecoForward units will be offered in limited quantities by the end of the year and fully available in 2013, Carrier announced. More information is available on a microsite at www.carrier.com/ecoforward.
