SALISBURY, N.B. -- The Atlantic Canada-based Convoy for Hope will be trucking from Salisbury to Aulac, N.B. to raise money for cancer research on Sept. 15.

The convoy will set out from the Irving Big Stop in Salisbury before arriving at the Aulac’s Big Stop for post-convoy festivities, including a barbeque, auction, draws, awards, and other entertainment.

Organizers have set an ambitious goal to attract 100 trucks and truckers to take part and raise $100,000 for lung, breast, colon and prostate cancer.

“The trucking community provides a tremendous service delivering essentials to Atlantic Canada; this event gives us further opportunity to deliver hope,” said Jo-Anne Phillips, committee member and organizer for Convoy for Hope – Atlantic. “It is encouraging to see that monies raised by events such as ours has had significant impact on increasing awareness aiding in early detection and increasing survival rates. It is our hope that our event continues to have this positive effect on the four cancers that [most significantly] impact Atlantic Canadians.

“In our busy, hectic lives, the large 18-wheeler in traffic in front of us is not always recognized for the true service it's providing. It is our hope that this event further enhances the relationship between motorist and truckers, allowing us to share the road and the vision,” Phillips added.
