PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -- Funding has been granted for the Central Interior Logging Association’s FIRST Logger program, which looks to train individuals on how to become log haulers or heavy equipment operators.

The FIRST (Forest Industry Readiness Skills Training) Logger program received $494,000 in funding this past spring from the province of B.C. As a result, 28 log truck drivers and logging equipment operators received training and were placed into jobs in the Prince George area.

Forestry Minister Pat Bell said the response was “phenomenal” and announced another $494,000 in funding to continue the project. Funding will be offered in the Fort St. James, Burns Lake, Houston, Smithers and Terrace areas.

The training, according to CILA, combines private trainers and contractors, offering real-time projection experience and on-the-job training.

Interested contractors should contact CILA at 250-562-3368 or visit www.firstlogger.org.
