BARRIE, Ont. — The Ontario Truck Driving Championships are set for July 11-12 at the Barrie Molson Centre and Truck News, part of the Transportation Media group of publications, is proud to be joining this important industry event as the official media sponsor.

Since 1947 the Ontario Trucking Driving Championships (OTDC) have provided a forum for professional truck drivers to display their skill and encourage drivers and their employers to take an active interest in the safety, skill and courtesy needed to conduct a responsible business on our streets and highways. They are designed to create greater public awareness that truck driving is an important and necessary profession.

Through a series of difficult, competitive tests that measure the level of driver expertise, the contestant’s knowledge of rules of the road, safety, courtesy and efficiency in vehicle handling are evaluated. Regional, private and company championships are held annually throughout Ontario leading to the Ontario Truck Driving Championships.

“As the official media sponsor, Truck News, is committed to providing exciting coverage of the final championships and the competitions leading up to it like you’ve never seen before,” said Lou Smyrlis, publisher and editorial director of Transportation Media. “We will engage all our media platforms – print, online, social media, WebTV – to highlight the skills, knowledge and personalities behind this year’s contestants.”

“With Truck News as our official media sponsor, a wider audience will get to share in the good news stories about the drivers and fleets that compete. No matter how you get your industry news, you will get to meet Ontario’s best drivers, and the fleets they drive for,” said Ewen Steele, president, OTDC.

Regional qualifiers are running June 14, Driver registrations will open May 1st. Hundreds are expected for the final event in Barrie and Transportation Media will be there with its camera crew to record the exciting competition.

  • After being the MC for the Alberta Truck Driving Championships, I am always disappointed at how few executives of transport companies support this very high profile event.
During my time as fleet owner, this event ranked very high on my schedule.

  • Only days away now until the Provincial Championships. Good luck to all Competitors, have Fun and be safe. Also thanks to the many volunteers and sponsors. “Please remember…Don’t Drink. And Drive”

  • What a great staged event to reward those drivers whose skills perhaps never really got the recognition they truly deserve ! To allow them to compete in a controlled safe environment to showcase their professionalism & talent is a wonderful idea. Would be nice to see even more carriers on board supporting their drivers in such an event , to allow them a chance to compete with some of the best in the industry !

Nothing but positive things can come from this. Way to go OTDC & it’s volunteers !!!
    Keep it going 😉
