PORTLAND, Ore. -- TransCore’s North American Freight Index has set a new record for the month of June.
Year-over-year, the spot market freight index was up 6.3% over last June. However, TransCore reports freight volume slipped 2% compared to May 2012.
Normally, freight volumes increase from May to June to the tune of about 12%, TransCore notes.
The DAT North American Freight Index reflects spot market freight availability on TransCore’s network of load boards in the US and Canada.
The company reports truckload freight rates on the spot market increased in June for the three major trailer types. Van rates were up 4.4% over May, flatdeck rates climbed 3.4% and reefer rates rose 3.5%. Rate increases do not include fuel surcharges.
