PORTLAND, Ore. — Unimog North America is introducing a heavy-duty 3-point hitch option for the Unimog U500 vocational vehicle.

Available immediately from Unimog dealers in the U.S. and Canada, the 3-point hitch is manufactured by Mandako Agri, a farm implement OEM based in Plum Coulee, Man.

The heavy-duty Category 3 hitch is a universal attachment that enables the Unimog U500 to hook up with hundreds of implements used in farming, such as plows, harrows, rakes, mowers and agricultural trailers. It mates with both mechanical and hydraulically-operated machinery.

The quick-attach design features one upper and two lower attachment arms, allowing the operator to hook up to anything that a farm tractor pulls. An adapter plate is available for front-mount locations.

A cattleman, Karl Haubold, uses it on his family’s ranch near Muenster, Texas, to pull trailers and operate plows used in raising hay for the animals.

“The hitch is heavy-duty and adjustable,” he said. “Any implement that a farmer would use with a tractor is easily attached. It’s very versatile.”

Haubold also mounts it up front for spraying his crops and moves it to the rear to pull trailers and planting equipment. When he’s not ranching, Haubold is the Unimog specialist at Freightliner of San Antonio.
