Western Star offers new transmission option

FORT MILL, S.C.— Buyers of the Western Star 4700 now have a new transmission option to choose: an Allison 4700 Rugged Duty Series (RDS).

The 4700 RDS offers a 2nd “deep” reverse to provider greater engine control and engine breaking while operating on steep grades. It also comes with primary and secondary shift schedules, designed to improve fuel economy, and seamless full-power shifts.

Maximum power input for the 4700 RDS is 565hp is on/off highway operatsions, 500hp for refuse, and 600hp for HET. The maximum torque input is 1770 lb.-ft. (highway)/1550 lb.-ft. (refuse)/1850 lb.-ft (HET).

Western Star Trucks Inc. suggests the 4700 RDS be mated to trucks destined for off-road and vocational operations such as construction, dump, and oil field. Other transmission options for the Western Star 4700 include the Allison 3000, 4000 and 4500 RDS.
