MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Xata Corporation has announced a name change to XRS Corporation as it rolls out a new mobile platform for its new fleet optimization and compliance program.

The new name stands for Xata Road Science, the company announced at its user event.

“We’ve always been at the forefront of developing technologies and services that have brought the power of science to the trucking industry,” says Jay Coughlan, CEO of XRS Corporation. “Now, we’ve pioneered mobile fleet optimization, a revolution that’s literally putting the power of technology in every driver’s hand. Our new name honours Xata’s proud history while reflecting our breakthrough new mobile technology.”

XRS now offers a new, all-mobile platform designed to help fleets and drivers capture data for two purposes: to stay compliant and to reduce costs. The company already had 50,000 mobile subscribers using its first-generation mobile tool Xata Turnpike.

XRS will run on more than 50 types of mobile devices to transmit vehicle and operator data directly to a management dashboard, the company announced. There are no additional hardware costs for users who already have a mobile device (about 90% of drivers fall into this category, XRS estimates).

“The days of expensive, hard-wired, on-board installations are gone. Mobile technology is established in our industry; XRS is the next step. We are already working with our legacy Xata customers to help them go mobile with ease and efficiency,” says Coughlan.

The new service will be available for a monthly subscription fee with no hardware or capital costs. For more info, visit www.xrscorp.com.
