Shairporter Launches Airport Ride-Share Service in New York City

NEW YORK

Shairporter, a community for travelers to find each other and share rides to and from the airport, has launched today in New York City. It is the most affordable and direct way to reach John F. Kennedy International, La Guardia and Newark Liberty International airports from anywhere in Manhattan.

Shairporter matches travelers between neighborhoods and airports so they can arrange to share a taxi or black town car. Using their Facebook account, passengers can log-on to the website and post a ride to find other passengers going to or from the airport on the same day and at the same time. Shairporter retains the users’ Facebook privacy settings and also allows them to view profiles to choose their ride-share companions. Matched passengers decide on a location to meet and hail a cab or coordinate a black car service pickup for both and then split the fare, saving time and money. Shairporter users avoid the hassle of transferring subways, buses or shuttles as well as its inevitable delays.

“Shairporter not only provides a more affordable, efficient alternative for passengers, but it also reduces the region’s energy consumption of 11 million gallons of gas per year and mitigates traffic congestion. 30 million single passenger cab and limo trips are taken each year; this is only likely to increase as the number of air passengers grows at an expected 20 percent by 2020,” said Founder and CEO Winston Wu. “Carpooling, not taxi hailing apps, is the missing link in New York’s ground transportation system. We believe Shairporter can help fill that gap, starting with how we get to or from the airport. Cabs are about 25% of airport travel, so we allow users to share rides and reduce their costs while increasing rides and fares for the industry. We’re here to work with both the passenger and the taxi industry.”

In addition, with the upcoming holiday season, there’s a big opportunity to find friends with one or two degrees of separation to share with. Shairporter is encouraging passengers to post rides via its website. Those traveling for Thanksgiving can participate in the “Free Fare for All” campaign, where all rides shared on Wednesday, November 21st will be fully paid for by Shairporter.
