Airline tackles demand for seats, throws long all the way to Toronto
(and back)
CALGARY, Nov. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced it will add
flights between Calgary and Toronto to accommodate demand from football
fans to huddle up for centennial Grey Cup celebrations in Toronto this
weekend. The Calgary Stampeders will play the Toronto Argonauts for CFL
supremacy at Rogers Centre on Sunday, November 25.
WestJet will add one flight on Friday from Calgary to Toronto and one
flight on Monday from Toronto to Calgary, plus return flights in the
opposite direction each day. In addition to the seven flights we offer
each weekday, seats on these additional flights are now available for
purchase on westjet.com, by calling our Sales Super Centre at
1-888-937-8538 or through your preferred travel agent.
"The Grey Cup is Canada's oldest professional sports trophy and a truly
Canadian celebration," said Bob Cummings, WestJet's Executive
Vice-President of Sales, Marketing and Guest Experience. "This year, as
we celebrate the 100th Grey Cup Championship in Toronto, we're calling the signals. Flights
between Calgary and Toronto are almost completely sold out, so we're
changing the play. In support of this iconic Canadian tradition, we are
adding two more flights to help get more fans over their goal line."
Guests wishing to travel to and from Toronto for Grey Cup weekend are
urged to book quickly, as seats on these two additional flights are
expected to sell very quickly. Please note that no regularly scheduled
flights were punted to make way for these additional flights.
"In addition to the Stampeders and Argonauts, we, too, have a remarkable
team," Bob Cummings told a scrum of sports reporters. "We're gonna take
these additional flights one at a time. Our WestJetters have worked
hard to get to this point and I know we're going to give 110 per cent
this weekend. Like Canadians all across our great country, we are
super-excited about Grey Cup and we're going to be extra-fun and
extra-friendly this weekend."
