Westcan driver named 2018 Highway Star

TORONTO, Ont. – Doug McGowan of Westcan Bulk Transport has been named the 2018 Highway Star of the Year – recognizing Canada’s top truck driver or owner-operator. Selected through a national search by Newcom Media’s Today’s Trucking, Truck News, and Truck West magazines, the driver was presented with the honor during the Truck World trade show in Toronto. “It’s a great honor ... there are a lot of excellent drivers out there,” said McGowan. “I’d also like to take this time to promote retiring military personnel towards driving positions, using myself as an example.”

‘Dear Sask. truck driver’ shows support for trucker in Humboldt crash

HUMBOLDT, Sask. – “Dear Saskatchewan Truck Driver.” So begins a note penned to the driver of the truck involved in a tragic collision that took the lives of 15 people in rural Saskatchewan, April 6. The truck collided with a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos, a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League team on their way to a playoff game in Nipawin, Sask., killing 15 passengers and sending 14 more to hospital with injuries. November shippers index improved but still in the red

BLOOMINGTON, IN - FTR's Shippers Conditions Index (SCI) for November 2014 stood at -3.2 - a number that reflects the easing of capacity tightness combined with a significant drop in fuel prices. The Shippers Conditions Index is a compilation of factors affecting the shippers transport environment. Any reading below zero indicates a less-than-ideal environment for shippers. While capacity conditions improved in the fourth quarter of 2014, it is still a negative factor, along with rising rates that will continue to impact shippers throughout 2015.
