Aaron Tennant, Kathy Penner named winners of TCA’s step challenge
GRAPEVINE, Tx.– This year’s Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) convention was one for the movers and shakers.
In an effort to improve the health and wellness of those in the trucking industry, Healthy Trucker (a division of NAL Insurance) created the TCA Challenge where the association’s eleven officers competed to see who could log the most steps over the course of the three-day convention.
Contestants were equipped with a FitBit device that tracked their every move.
Aaron Tennant, president of Tennant Truck Lines won the competition after logging 100,289 steps. Tennant won bragging rights along with 20 FitBit devices to be used to educate his company about achieving a healthy lifestyle.
Kathy Penner, associate publisher of Truck News won the general activity challenge that was open to all attendees. She logged a total of 99, 489 steps and came out on top of the other 27 participants.
“This challenge was a new way to get the ‘movers and shakers’ of the trucking industry actually moving and shaking!” said Tom Kretsinger, Jr., TCA’s outgoing chairman and the president of American Central Transport, Inc., Liberty, Missouri. “We had fun with it, but it also helped focus attention on getting fit, which is one of the key objectives in TCA’s three-year strategic plan. Obesity, sleep apnea, diabetes, and all the other risks that come from a sedentary lifestyle can be reduced — or sometimes even eliminated — with some creative thinking and new attitudes.”
Over the entire convention, the participants logged more than 790 miles combined. The total number of steps reached almost 1.6 million.
