ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The top truck drivers in British Columbia will be descending upon the Tradex Centre on June 22 for the 2013 B.C. Professional Truck Driving Championships.

The competition is expected to attract up to 70 professional drivers, an equal number of volunteer judges, and several hundred spectators throughout the day and evening, according to organizers.

There are five classes of competition ranging from Straight Truck to B-Train.  The competition consists of three tests of knowledge and skill including a written exam, a vehicle inspection and the driving competition – which simulates the everyday skills of manoeuvring, cornering and judging distance on an obstacle course. To be eligible to compete, each driver must have been actively employed and accident-free for the 12-month period prior to the championships.

The driving portion of the contest will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organizers note that spectators are welcome to attend and there is no admission charge. A banquet dinner will follow in the evening at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel.
