VANCOUVER, B.C. — Ballard Power Systems and UCAR International have entered into an exclusive, long-term supply agreement.

The agreement covers graphite-based materials and manufactured components for Ballard fuel cells and fuel cell systems. Ballard will also invest US$5 million for partial ownership of Graftech Inc. — a subsidiary of UCAR.

Graftech will also develop and manufacture prototypes and provide early stage testing in its on-site fuel cell testing centre.

The agreement expands on the companies’ original 1999 collaboration through until possibly as far as 2015.
