BURNABY, B.C. – Ballard Power Systems has teamed up with U.S.-based Microcoating Technologies (MCT) to help develop their chemical vapor deposition process for use in Ballard’s fuel cells.

The new technology could reduce costs and improve the performance of the fuel cells, according to Ballard’s president and chief executive officer, Kip Smith.

“This collaboration with MCT supports our long-term strategy to reduce costs and simplify manufacturing processes for Ballard fuel cell products,” said Smith.

As part of the partnership, Ballard will be investing more than $10 million in MCT, and Smith will be joining the MCT Board of Directors.
