NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. — A scheduling oversight by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Highways (MOTH) led to traffic chaos and had some drivers scratching their heads.
Although Lions Gate Bridge improvements have been going smoothly and closures have resulted in only minor headaches, drivers were left with few options after a northbound lane was closed on the second bridge to North Shore at the same time.
As a result of the outrage from drivers, MOTH spokesman Dan Mayberry told local media that closures of the two bridges will not overlap again.
“It was a scheduling oversight. When we learned about the inconvenience, we decided it was time to rethink and uphold the agreement,” said Mayberry, noting there was an agreement in place not to close lanes on both bridges at the same time.
Work will continue on both bridges, but improvements to the Second Narrows Bridge will likely continue during midday hours.
