Canadian freight costs continue to soar

TORONTO, Ont. -- The total cost of transportation for Canadian shippers has risen 1.6% from December to January according to research published today from the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI). 



TORONTO, Ont. — The total cost of transportation for Canadian shippers has risen 1.6% from December to January according to research published today from the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI). 
 
Results showed that the base rate index (that excludes the impact of accessorial charges evaluated by carriers) went up 1% from December. 
 
“Total Freights costs continued to rise into 2014 for the sixth consecutive month,” Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “With January’s increase total transportation costs are now 2.1% above a year ago and inching toward the peak as seen in March of 2013.”
