EDMONTON, Alta. — Alberta’s best professional drivers competed in the province’s trucking driving championships June 15, with winners set to represent the province at the nationals in Abbotsford, B.C. this fall.

The competition included a written exam, personal interview, pre-trip inspection test and driving skills test. At the end of the day, Rod Harrison of Canadian Freightways was named Grand Champion. He also won the tandem-tandem division.

Other winners included: Keith Franklin, Canadian Freightways, straight truck; Darren Tychkowsky, Fed-Ex Freight, single-single; Keith Day, Bison Transport, single-tandem; and Steve Calhoun, Canadian Freightways, B-Train.

Rookie of the Year honours went to George Catlin of Canadian Freightways and the team award went to, you guessed it, Canadian Freightways. The dominating squad included Jorge Medina, Pat Thorne, Rick Harris and Lonnie Wilton.
