Alexandria, VA — Canadians are in the running for two major Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) awards: owner operator of the year and company driver of the year.

Terrance Smith of Miramichi, N.B., is one of three finalists in the O/O division. The driver, who is leased to SLH Transport of Kingston, Ont., is in competition with an Illinois driver leased to Prime Inc and a driver from Iowa leased to Art Pape Transfer Inc.

In the company driver category, Bison Transport driver Jack Fielding, who is based in McKellar, Ont., is up against drivers from Fremont Contract Carriers Inc. and Prime Inc.

TCA says finalists are “selected based on their ability to operate in a safe manner on the public highways, efforts to enhance the public image of the trucking industry, and positive contributions to the communities in which they live.”

“It is always such a privilege to be able to work with professional drivers of this caliber,” said TCA chair Tom Kretsinger Jr. “I wish we could give every one of them the title of driver of the year.”

Winners will be announced in March at the TCA’s Annual Convention, which is being held in Grapevine, TX.
