CAUTION SOUNDED ON IRP

DIEPPE, N.B. — The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association is reminding its members that they have until July 29 to get fully registered under the International Registration Plan (IRP).

After July 29, U.S. authorities will be in a position to issue fines for failure to comply with IRP, which replaced the Canadian Agreement on Vehicle Registration (CAVR), throughout Canada, effective Apr. 1, as well as governs commercial-vehicle permits for rigs running in the U,S.br>
In order to comply with IRP by that date, trucks must be fully registered in the system and have the proper IRP registration documentation that shows the U.S. jurisdictions in which the rig is meant to run.

As the association emphasizes, “this is mandatory for vehicles doing “INTER” operation with a gross mass of 11,793 kgs. (26,000 lbs.) or more (power unit or combination) and for all commercial vehicles doing “INTRA” operation unless trip permits are purchased.”

Some vehicles are exempted, such as those with farm or dealer plates; government vehicles and vehicles operating under the New Brunswick and Quebec reciprocity agreement.

The association has been holding information sessions on IRP, with two dates left on the agenda. One is being held today in Grand Falls and another is being held May 8 in Woodstock.
