Cement shipments rise, but still down overall

OTTAWA, Ont. — Manufacturers shipped 923,098 metric tonnes of cement in April, that’s up 20.8 per cent.

In March, 764 061 tonnes of cement were shipped, but the total was down 5.6 per cent from the 977,761 tonnes shipped in April 2000.

Year-to-date shipments total 2,794,446 tonnes, down 0.7 per cent from the 2,815,491 tonnes during the same period in 2000.
