NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A US fleet says it has extended drain intervals to 70,000 miles using Chevron Delo 400 LE SAE 15W-40 engine oil.

R.E. West Transportation, based in Nashville, saw a 20,000-mile increase in its drain intervals, compared to the OEM recommendation.

It runs 120 trucks and 300 trailers, using Chevron Delo lubricants and extended life coolant. The 70,000-mile drain interval was achieved using Detroit Diesel DD15 engines

“Even with the extension, the company continued to see clean engines in top condition with minimal wear,” said founder and CEO Bob West.

R.E. West tore down an engine after 400,000 miles of service and was impressed with what it found.

“The protection Delo offers was clear,” said R.E. West maintenance manager Dustin Stricker. “With the extended drain intervals we’ve seen great wear (protection).”

“It’s very exceptional,” added Chevron’s mechanical engineer, Keith Narasaki. “On a scale of zero to 10, many of these parts would be 9.5, 9.6, which is almost like a new engine.”

West said the company is now looking to stretch drain intervals out even further.
