Forestry trucks to get FleetSmart

OTTAWA, Ont. — Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) is almost ready to introduce the latest evolution of its acclaimed FleetSmart program: SmartDriver for Forestry Trucks.

Ranging across all aspects of forestry trucking — from spec’ing new equipment and components to maintenance procedures and driving techniques — the eight-hour driver education package has been adapted in consultation with the industry’s stakeholders.

Not only does the SmartDriver system work to minimize operating costs of Canada’s diverse timberland haulers, but it also serves to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other so-called greenhouse gases.

The free training package will soon be available on CD-ROM and, according to the OEE, can be easily run on any home computer or laptop.

Any fleet manager, owner/operator, company driver or instructor is eligible to receive a free copy. To get yours, e-mail smart.driver@mtl.feric.ca or fax your request to 514-694-4351.
