ESTON, Sask. — An increase in truck traffic on Hwy. 44 has prompted the Saskatchewan government to improve safety on the highway near Eston.

About 11 kilometres of Hwy. 44 will be resurfaced, and the road will be widened as well to better accommodate heavy truck traffic.

Highways and Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said "Highway 44 has experienced an increase in truck traffic, particularly in the Eston area, and the road needed to be wider for safety reasons."

The project is slated for completion by mid-July.
