In an official release, SmartDrive said he will be directly involved in the formation of new solution initiatives and strategies related to predictive analytics, intelligent algorithm development and industry-focused management metrics.

“We are privileged to have Don join the SmartDrive advisory board,” said SmartDrive CEO Steve Mitgang. “As an influential thought leader in commercial transportation, Don shares our belief that turning today’s ‘big data’ into intelligent, prescriptive insights presents the next major opportunity for fleets to improve fleet efficiency and fully realize the value of their technology investments. We look forward to working with him to deliver breakthrough insights for fleets.”

Osterberg’s experience in the industry spans multiple decades and he is a recognized authority on carrier safety, according to SmartDrive. He was senior vice-president of safety, security and driver training for Schneider and held leadership roles with organizations including the National Safety Council, FMCSA Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee, American Trucking Association’s Safety Policy Committee and American Transportation Research Institute’s Research Advisory Committee.

“I am excited to collaborate with the SmartDrive team and lend my expertise to the company’s transportation intelligence strategic initiatives. Making advanced analytics and actionable insights available to fleets of every size has been a longstanding challenge – one that I am excited to help solve given the impact it can have on our industry,” said Osterberg. “I am particularly energized by the opportunity to work with a team and a technology platform known for rapid innovation and hyper-focus on identifying new ways to help fleets become safer and more efficient.”
