Job fair to be held in Burlington June 7

BURLINGTON, Ont. — A number of trucking companies are coming together June 7 for a career fair.

The event will be held at the Burlington Holiday Inn from 9 a.m. till noon. The event is sponsored by TRIP Insurance/Pearson Dunn Insurance Brokers. Drivers will have an opportunity to speak with several carriers representing a variety of segments, organizers say.

Long-haul, short-haul, tanker, flatbed, reefer and food service delivery carriers are expected to be on-hand.

“As an insurance broker, the most common question I am asked is, ‘How can I find quality drivers?’ I am pleased to answer that question with this major hiring event,” says Lisa Arseneau, vice-president, transportation with TRIP Insurance/Pearson Dunn Insurance Brokers.

Also participating will be KRTS Transportation Specialists, which will be sharing training options with attendees looking to embark on a career in the trucking industry.

Among the carriers taking part is Gordon Food Service.

“We are looking for some great people to add to our team of professional representatives. We offer a lucrative pay package for our representatives who are home every day and make a very good living,” says Jen Wei, human resources coordinator with the company.

Other carriers that’ll be there include Scotlynn Group and Schneider’s.

“It is time to ramp things up with the best of the best. There are some really good companies out there looking for quality existing professional drivers as well for those who want to get their licence and join this great industry,” said KRTS president Kim Richardson. “Carriers are looking for drivers who have a strong work ethic and desire to succeed with companies who have a proven track record of doing things properly in the business.”

  • Very good show should have continued till 2.00 in the afternoon. Most of the companies there were not owner-op rates high enough to get new people. I was outside listening to some people looking at trucking and in talking with them , they felt that they would be better off to take up a another trade that had higher hourly pay
