VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver will be periodically closed for construction this summer.

Officials earlier this week said that although the exact schedule is still being planned, the work will nonetheless begin in the next few weeks.

“It will begin with a full weekend closure and regular weeknight closures will take place after that,” officials said. Weeknight closures will be limited to 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday to Thursday.

The bridge has needed work for many years, and plans to refurbish the bridge is often postponed. Deck replacement was originally scheduled for completion last fall. The plans now say it will be finished by this fall.
