CAMBRIDGE, Ont. — Drivers from Loblaw’s Maple Grove distribution centre in Cambridge, Ont. recently competed in a truck driving championship hosted by the company.

Attendance was up compared to last year, organizers said, with drivers vying for honours in a variety of competitions. To enter, drivers had to work for Loblaw and have a valid driver’s licence for tractor-trailer competition.

The test included a 50 question knowledge section, a vehicle inspection and an obstacle course. A tandem axle tractor and 53-ft. tandem axle trailer were used for the competition. While the drivers competed, family activities including a bouncy castle, mini-golf and other entertainment was offered.

A barbecue featuring, what other than President’s Choice products, was also held.

At the end of the day, the winners were: Ken Griffin, first place; Carmine Parliago, second place; and Ron Francis, third place.

Organizers say the championship was revived in 2012 following a hiatus, and that plans are already underway for a 2014 event.
