LTL total freight costs stabilize

TORONTO, Ont. – The total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers went up by 2.6% in March when compared to February, according to the results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index.

The Base Rate Index also increased by 2.7% when compared to February, while Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers increased this month. Fuel was 17.02% of Base Rates in March versus 16.02% in February.

“LTL Total Freight Costs appear to be stabilizing with a small decrease in domestic LTL and a slight increase in cross border LTL,” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. “Domestic Truckload has seen six straight months of increases while Cross Border Truckload has now seen eight straight months of increases.”
