Manitoba truck pull raises $3,000 for United Way

WINNIPEG, Man. -- It took less than three minutes for the Manitoba trucking industry to raise $3,000 for the United Way.

WINNIPEG, Man. — It took less than three minutes for the Manitoba trucking industry to raise $3,000 for the United Way.

The third annual Truck Pull for the United Way was held Oct. 4, pitting six transportation companies against each other in a show of strength and determination. The event was held at the Polo Park Shopping Centre.

Six teams of 10 people pulled a 2013 Peterbilt 386, weighing nearly 19,000 lbs, for a distance of 100 feet.

The winning team was the Lorrygaggers, representing Sysco Foods Winnipeg. They completed the task in 14.45 seconds. Second was MaxxForce, representing Maxim Truck and Trailer, which completed the pull in 15.28 seconds. Rounding out the top three was Bison Transport’s team, Blazing Bison. They finished with a time of 15.53 seconds.

Fourth place was Team Big Freight (Big Freight Systems), No Payne, No Gain (Payne Transportation) finished fifth, and the Dr. Hook Towing team rounded out the field.

Organizers said the Dr. Hook Towing was unable to compete, with most of its members having to field service calls due to the bad weather and poor road conditions.

Participating teams paid a registration fee of $500, with all funds going towards the United Way. Teams were required to have at least three female members to take part.
