Oil tanker explosion destroys three trucks

VANSCOY, Sask. — Police say it’s amazing nobody was injured after an oil tanker exploded in this small Saskatchewan town, taking two other trucks with it.

About $500,000 in damages resulted from the explosion, the cause of which is still under investigation.

“They were just heating up the oil. We had an explosion and it ruptured the tank and the oil and everything,” fire chief Bill Gessell told local media. “The tractor unit that was pulling the trailer caught on fire, and there were two other trucks that were sitting close by that caught on fire as well.”

The explosion happened in the municipality’s shop yards.
