BURFORD, Ont. — Project Momentum, a new CTA-led initiative aimed at driving down cargo theft, will hold its first meeting Sept. 5 at Jeff Bryan Transport’s facility.

The program is a collaboration between the Canadian Trucking Alliance and Ontario Trucking Association, Verisk Crime Analytics Canada and CargoNet, as well as law enforcement agencies.

It will raise awareness about the growing threat of cargo theft and develop solutions to reduce losses.

Phase 1 of Project Momentum will be the Sept. 5 workshop, featuring speakers from law enforcement and industry.

“The goal is to educate everyone from carriers, to the courts, to the public of the scope and seriousness of cargo crime and the impact it and the organized syndicates behind it is having not only on the business world but in our communities,” Jeff Bryan said. “There is some momentum building. Industry has taken the first steps, law enforcement is there beside us to help, but so much more needs to be done such as tougher sentencing.”

Phase 2 will focus on providing training and awareness to law enforcement. To sign up for the workshop, fill out this form.
