LOUISVILLE, Ky. — North Bay, Ont. owner/operator Dave Carr has won vehicle number one of Peterbilt’s Model 387 Premier Edition line of only 387 rigs.

Carr, one of over 14,000 entrants, was handed the keys during a ceremony at Louisville, Ky.’s Mid-America Trucking Show.

“I didn’t believe them,” says Carr, of when he first got the phone call notifying him of his win. “I thought it was a scam,” says who hauls tanks of acids, wood alcohol and dust suppressants for Harmac Transportation, of Concord, Ont.

It took a minute for him to realize that it was no trick, and to remember that he’d entered the drawing.

Peterbilt launched the contest last fall at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, as part of releasing the 387 series.

“It’s really nice to see people like this win,” says David Climie, president of Peterbilt Ontario Group.

Carr, who is 53 and has driven trucks since he was 15 years old, was accompanied by his wife, Joanne McDonald, with whom he runs D&J Transport, which is leased to Harmac.
