Speakers, topics announced for OTA’s Council Summit

TORONTO, Ont. — The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) announced recently that its four new pillar trucking councils – Compliance and Freight Policy Council, Cross-Border Council, People, Planning and Development Council and the Cargo Crime Council – will come together under one roof in Toronto.

The OTA said this new Council Summit will help make trucking companies more efficient and profitable.

 The Council Summit is set to take place at the International Plaza Hotel and will be an interactive, educational and networking event dealing with vital industry issues of safety/freight policy, labour, customs and cargo security.

 The four councils will each host concurrent sessions that will identify key trends transforming the industry. Speakers and topics include:

  • Preparing for an ELD Mandate – Tom Cuthbertson, Chair, ELD Task Force , Technology and Maintenance Council
  • SPIF Explained and the Future of Trucking Equipment in Ontario –Joe Lynch, Ministry of Transportation
  • CVOR Modernization – Brian Swan, Ministry of Transportation
  • Mandatory Entry Level Training/Driver Certification Program – Franca Ambrosio, Kim MacCarl, John Landolfi – Ministry of Transportation | Rolf VanderZwaag, Ontario Trucking Association
  • Marijuana Legalization – Barb Butler, President, Barb Butler & Associates, Dr. Barry Kurtzer, and Ross Wells (Gowlings)
  • Current Status of Federal Overtime Surveys – Federal Labour Program (ESDC)
  • Federal Health and Safety Compliance: Trends in the Trucking Industry – Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
  • Controlling Your Group Benefit Costs – GroupHealth Benefit Solutions
  • Managing Millennials in the Trucking Industry – Angela Splinter (President & CEO Trucking HR Canada)

OTA says the cost to attend the Council Summit is $50 for the networking lunch fee. OTA CEO David Bradley is the keynote speaker.

Registration starts at 9 a.m., followed by meetings beginning at 10 a.m.
