NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. — As hours of service tick away, drivers can’t waste time looking for a place to park when it’s time for their mandatory rest periods.

A project in the US is looking to help drivers find empty and safe spots using 3D video, automated communications and telematics. PeopleNet is involved in the experiment and Randy Boyles, senior vice president of tailored solutions describes how the company is working with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), the University of Minnesota and the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) to develop a solution that can be used by the entire industry.

To watch Boyles detail how it works, see the video posted on the Transport Matters Television (TMTV) YouTube channel.
