Total costs increase

TORONTO, Ont. — The total cost of ground transportation for shippers increased by 0.5% in August compared to July results according to results published recently by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, also increased by 0.4% in August.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers decreased this month. Fuel was 11.94% of Base Rates in August versus 12.44%in July.

“Total Freight Costs inched higher with all segments in the positive territory in August,” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. “Total Costs are still below last August by 7.4%, however. Year over Year, Domestic Costs are above last year’s level, while the Cross Border Costs are well below those of last year,” continued Payne.
