Trailer orders up 28% in January
COLUMBUS, Ind. — Trailer orders started the year on a strong note, up 28% in January compared to the same month a year before.
ACT Research indicated in its State of the Industry: US Trailers report that there was growth across most trailer segments.
“Seven of the 10 trailer categories had y-o-y growth in January,” said Frank Maly, director – CV transportation analysis and research at ACT. “Particular strength came from reefer vans, which rose 80% from year-ago levels, tank trailers, which saw triple-digit gains from cancellation depleted results in early 2013, and heavy lowbeds which posted high double-digit gains y-o-y and m-o-m. The industry is in the midst of its annual ‘order season’ and January’s orders helped backlog open the year with a solid 8% m-o-m gain,”
The industry’s build rate fell 10% in January, thanks to weather-related delays.
