TRANSPORT/WAREHOUSING ADDS 3,000 NEW JOBS

OTTAWA, Ont. — Statistics Canada reports employment in the transportation and warehousing sector increased from 787,800 in December to 788,100 in January.

It also reported that employment in this sector increased by 11,500 new jobs from January 2000 to last month.

Overall, the employment rate was essentially unchanged in January, following strong growth over the previous five months, Statistics Canada says.

The rate edged up 0.1 per cent, to 6.9 per cent. All figures are seasonally adjusted, Stats Canada adds.
